Hello!
Sorry it's been so long since I've written. It's Memorial Day weekend and Doug is in San Francisco at a Rock family wedding. I had intended on accompanying him, but a snow day earlier this year ended up tacking on an additional day of school and the timing didn't work out. I decided to use some of the money we saved from not going to enjoy the weekend. I spent the morning sipping coffee and eating a muffin at an outdoor cafe and reading then bought myself a lounge chair, took it to the park and continued reading.
I made myself a big salad for dinner and have pistachio gelato in the freezer for dessert. In a few minutes, I'm on my way to hear an author speak about a book I just finished reading.
Books, reading, coffee, gelato, sunshine...my perfect weekend.
In other news: school will be done on Tuesday (for kids) then I'm attending a science workshop for a week after that and then I will be FREE! I'll find out the official fate of the charter school on June 7th and only have to survive one more public forum before then. The house is coming along and is starting to take shape. The garage is poured and framed and we laid floor trusses and decking last weekend. I personally screwed in the 528 decking screws and ended up with tendinitis in my thumb. The plumbing is done upstairs and the electrical is getting close. I'm really hoping that the drywall guy will be able to come in soon and we'll be a lot closer to having a bedroom we can move in to. Yesterday we bought all the appliances for the kitchen. It's been nice to have some exciting things happening.
The pictures are from a few weeks ago and show the foundation for the garage (the addition will be above) before the concrete was poured. I'll try to have more recent pics soon -- Doug always has the camera with him.
P.S. I just got back from seeing the author I mentioned earlier. It was NOT what I expected. I had thought she would talk about her book, but instead it was mostly a poetry reading. Since she was supposed to be there to talk about her novel, this was a bit odd. Also she used strange voices and accents and singing that pretty much made the whole audience uncomfortable. The whole audience which included no one but me under the age of 70. Geez I guess most people my age don't spend Saturday night at the library. I'm such a nerd. I'll spend the rest of my evening reading a book by a different author and drinking wine.
